About Our Organization
EPILEPSY FOUNDATION MISSION
The Epilepsy Foundation will ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences; and will prevent, control and cure epilepsy through services, education, advacacy and research.
Epilepsy is the third most common neurological disorder in the United States after Alzheimer's disease and stroke. 2.5 million Americans have epilepsy. It is equal in prevalence to cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease combined. This year another 200,000 people people in the United States will be diagnosed with epilespy. Of the major chonic medical conditions, epilepsy is among the least understood, even though one in three adults knows someone with the disorder.
The Epilepsy Foundation continues to move forward by reaching out to thousands of children and adults with epilepsy in north and southeast Texas. Epilepsy Foundation staff and volunteers work together to provide vital programs and services to people with epilepsy that help offset the emotional impact of the disorder.
